A well is dug or dilled in order to reach groundwater that could be used for human consumption. Most of the time the water is really deep down the earth’s crust and may require an electric machine such as the submersible well pump to extract water from below the ground. Traditionally people used buckets attached to pulleys to extract water from the well by themselves or with the help of animals. However, since modern motor technology is available to pump water we don’t need any of these methods, but they are still practiced in many rural areas around the world, where farmers don’t have access to such gadgets. Thus they have to follow these century old method to get water for their consumption. The water obtained from within the ground is usually quite salty and may not be fit for human consumption; therefore it may also require some treatment through a water softener.
