I shoot a lot of wedding photography so lens that have a sharp center at wide open and can eliminate background distractions is what I need to perform my job. When shopping for wide angle lens to capture both portraits and large group photos I found that this Canon 35mm 1.4 is more than adequate for all my photography needs. I’ve found it works best when placed on a 1.3x crop body and has an amazing short focus minimum range at 30 cm. The 72 mm filter lets in plenty of light and very fast shutter speeds that work great for sunset photos. I cannot wait for the last bride and groom I shot a wedding for to see these photos as they are simply stunning. The price is a bit high since it is an L series camera but it is well worth it as the pictures are ultra-sharp even when taken wide open.

This Tamron 200-500 lens offers great optical quality considering the price. Images that I took with the 1.4X teleconverter were soft however. I think with the 2X teleconverters the images would be unacceptable. The autofocus speed was terrible with either teleconverters. If you want a quality telephoto lens, go for the Canon 100-400mm lens instead. The 100mm focal length might offer less range, but it is superior to the Tamron in all other respects. If you need the zoom of 400mm to 500mm range, I would recommend the Sigma 50-500mm over the Tamron. It works very well with the extension tube. You need to remember some points before using the Tamron 200-500 with extension tubes. The minimum focusing distance is 2.5m and the magnification ratio is 1:5. Therefore, mounting an extension tube of 500mm on a 500mm lens will give a 1:1 magnification ratio. Make sure you remember this formula although it is a bit oversimplified.
